FINRA Arbitration Award: San Francisco Financial Advisor Amy Blodgett and Firm Ameritas Advisory Services Ordered to Pay $20,000 to Customers

In an arbitration award published by FINRA on August 5, 2021, San Francisco, CA financial advisor Amy Rogers Blodgett and brokerage firm Ameritas Advisory Services was ordered to pay over $20,000 in damages to customers that alleged “gross mismanagement of investments” in their joint account maintained at Ameritas Advisory Services.

The Statement of Claim in the case resulting in the arbitration award was filed on or about March 11, 2021, and named Ameritas Advisory Services (“Ameritas”) and Ms. Blodgett as Respondents.

In the Statement of Claim, Claimants asserted several causes of action against Ameritas and Ms. Blodgett, including unsuitability, breach of fiduciary duty, negligence, negligent misrepresentation, breach of contract, and fraud and deceit based on concealment. The causes of action relate to Respondents’ alleged gross mismanagement of investments in Claimants’ joint account maintained at Ameritas.

The Claimants requested compensatory damages in the amount of $20,102.84, as well as other damages.

The Respondents responded by asking that the arbitrator dismiss the claims and recommend expungement of the customer complaint on Ms. Blodgett’s public disclosure report.

The arbitrator found Ameritas and Ms. Blodgett jointly and severally liable and ordered them to pay the Claimants the sum of $20,102.84 in compensatory damages, as well as $600 to cover the cost to the customers for filing the claim.

Additionally, the arbitrator also denied Ms. Blodgett’s request for expungement of this matter on her CRD records.
